Herdsmanship Award
Exhibitors will be judged throughout the Fair on management, appearance of animals, attractiveness of exhibit, safety and cleanliness. Prizes will be awarded in 4 categories – small dairy exhibit, large dairy exhibit, small beef exhibit and large beef exhibit.
Cattle Show Regulations
- All animals must be on the grounds by 7:30 p.m. Thursday, August 26, in the assigned exhibit space and will remain on the grounds until 5 p.m. Sunday.
- All State of Connecticut Department of Agriculture Connecticut Fair and show regulations and requirements will be followed regarding all health testing and vaccinations. Health charts and eartags will be checked before animals are unloaded.
- Any animal with horns cannot be entered into the fair.
- Any animal which presents a threat to the safety of people or other animals must be removed at the request of the superintendents.
- All animals must be in good physical conditions. Any animal showing evidence of warts, ringworm, hoof rot, lice, etc. will be refused entry.
- Calves under 3 months old must be separated from the public as stated in the “Emergency Order Concerning the Vaccinations or alternative Confinement of Certain Animals”. No bulls on grounds unless nursing the cow and born in the current year.
- The superintendents will designate the space for all entries.
- There are no entry fees.
- Exhibitors may enter two entries in each class.
- Exhibitors must wear their exhibitor number during their shows to ensure correct premiums.
- Exhibitors must furnish feed and hay. Bedding will be provided.
- In order to receive youth premiums, animals must be shown and controlled by the youth in whose names they are entered. In the case where that youth is exhibiting another of his cattle entries at the same time, another youth may show his exhibit for him.
- An entry form must be completed in order to receive premiums.
- Passes will be issued based on number of entries. Additional passes may be purchased from the pass office. There will be NO extra passes once the fair begins.
- Anyone 21 years of age or under as of January 1 are required to show in Showmanship and Fitting classes in order to receive youth premiums. Youth is anyone 21 or younger as of January 1st. Exhibitors must have washed and fitted their own animals in order to show in Showmanship, excluding Pee Wee and Over the Hill.
- Seniors will show first in Showmanship.
- Beef Registration Papers will be checked and must be available. If showing in Youth Show, animal must be registered in youth name or have proper 4-H lease papers sent with your entries. A copy of your current HEALTH PAPERS should also be sent with your entries.
- If vehicles or cattle trailers are parked on the grounds over the weekend, they need to use the designated area. CAMPERS MUST PRE-REGISTER with the appropriate forms and fees.
